Monday 4th February 2013 – The Minister for Finance, Mr. Michael Noonan T.D. today officially opened the newly redeveloped facilities at UPC’s national customer contact and administration HQ in the Enterprise Development Park on Roxboro Road, Limerick.
Marking UPC’s substantial commitment in Limerick, the leading provider of entertainment and communications has completed a €600,000 new expansion and renovation of its Roxboro based centre where 400 people are currently employed. UPC employs 800 people nationally including Limerick and an additional 700 contractors nationwide. The company has to date invested €500 million nationally in its new fibre powered network. The opening event was attended by UPC Ireland CEO, Dana Strong.
Minister Michael Noonan said: “UPC is one of Ireland’s leading multinational investment partners and I am very pleased to see the company’s continuing growth and development here in Limerick where it is contributing strongly to economic regeneration throughout the City.
“The Government’s plan for jobs and growth is focused on rebuilding the economy based on the promotion of financial stability, enterprise and innovation. UPC is an innovator in digital communications and the effect of the company’s continuing successful growth in Ireland is to be seen in the valuable national investments that it is making and in the very welcome employment that it is creating here in Limerick.”
UPC Ireland CEO Dana Strong said, “Limerick is playing an essential role in our success and it will continue to do so as we innovate more and grow our business even further nationwide. We are constantly improving our quality of service and our staff in Roxboro are at the forefront of these initiatives where Limerick underpins our nationwide service capability and competitiveness. We now have close to 1 million individual subscriptions for our services including superfast broadband, On-Demand TV and phone services.”
“As well as being a major employer, we are supporting digital inclusion and economic growth in Limerick through our provision of superfast broadband services to homes and businesses throughout the City. Over 32,000 homes in Limerick are now able to receive our fibre powered broadband and On Demand TV. This is enabled by UPC’s €500 million investment in our national fibre network which is continuing to drive new developments for the benefit of all our customers.
“Through our investments, we are also promoting the competiveness of Limerick based businesses where over 100 companies and organisations throughout the region are using our fibre powered broadband to communicate nationally and internationally. Our network is enabling Irish companies and SMEs to maximise their potential online. Our investments are also contributing to the attractiveness of Limerick as a location for inbound multinationals where these companies are more inclined to choose areas with the type of advanced communications infrastructure provided by UPC.
“The availability of high speed broadband accelerates productivity and innovation and will help to secure the potential for regionally based employment and economic growth where we want to see Limerick continuing to benefit from all of these developments.”
