Press Release  29/08/2013

Limerick Enterprise Development Partnership is pleased to announce today that work is to begin on the laying of a playing surface at the Markets Field.  This will be done in conjunction with a planning application being made towards the development of the ground as a home for Limerick Soccer.

The ground which has been unoccupied since 2009 will have a new playing surface prepared and laid over the next few weeks under the supervision of LEDP. This work will prepare the basis for the future development of the facility towards re- establishing the venue as a soccer and sports arena to be enjoyed by the people of Limerick.

The new surface will be laid to comply with professional standards. LEDP will be lodging a planning application to encompass the overall development of the ground. A key factor in LEDP proceeding with this project is the enthusiasm and degree of support which exists throughout the City and County for the regeneration of The Markets Field to bring it back to its former glory and make it once again a significant sporting facility in the City.

LEDP is committed to the development of the Stadium which was purchased from Bord na gCon in 2009. LEDP is a charitable trust company that is committed to the Economic, Educational, Social and Business development of Limerick. Its sixteen acre site at Roxboro Road is home to a myriad of Social, Commercial, Educational and Community Enterprises and major brands on site including UPC, ALDI, Maldron Hotels and the UL Access Campus.

LEDP recognise that laying the new pitch surface is just the first step in the redevelopment of The Markets Field and will provide the catalyst for the complete re-development of the Stadium.
