LEDP is very aware of the special place that The Markets Field holds in the sporting and cultural history of Limerick City. Most people who grew up in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s in Limerick will remember the highs and lows of Limerick soccer at the venue. But The Markets Field has witnessed many great events through the years. Originally used as a field for schooling horses for the nearby British Artillery Barracks whose OC lived at what is now the St.John’s CYMS and whose stables and stores were located in what is known as “Costellos Yard”.The field has seen Munster Hurling Finals, Rugby Senior Cup Finals was home to Garryowen RFC until the 1950’s and of course will be forever associated with Greyhound Racing. In a unique way it has equal resonances for people from the city and county of Limerick and as we move to a new and exciting era for the ground we would like to record some of the myriad of stories or photos that people have around their memories of this iconic stadium.
